Have a wonderful week!

SUPERINTENDENT' NOTES FOR THE WEEK The fall is certainly upon us, and the temperatures are dropping. I am always surprised about how resilient some of our students are in the face of the changing weather dynamic. Although I tell the students that I see around the schools in T-Shirts that I admire their defiance of the Cold Miser, things happen, and having layers in winter is always a great way to go. My middle daughter this morning (21 degrees at the time) did not want to wear her coat as she did not like the way it “looked.” These father-daughter moments over oatmeal will never be the stuff of a Hallmark card, but could help at the bus stop.

Last week, thanks to Diane Clokey, Karen Moran, and many others – Tolland had a wonderful Community Conversation on Raising Resilient Kids! It was well attended, and left all participants looking for more! A deep and sincere thanks to them for setting it up! Page 2 of 3 Page 2 of 3 This week, for the first time in Tolland, we will be streaming a meeting to the community. This will occur during the Pizza with the Superintendent meeting this week. I am hoping to test the technology on that evening, for future use. If you are interested in streaming in and asking questions through an e-mail I will provide that evening, please see the information below in the “upcoming” section. This fall, or early spring, I am hoping to do a Community Workshop on Assessments (and stream it). An Assessment committee has just begun and will review a CREC study on assessments, and our assessment practices in the district. This workshop will allow the community to engage in the conversation! Please keep an eye out for that event. Speaking of committees, we are interested in recruiting community members for the TPS Grant Committee. If you have some time, and would like to participate, please call let Jen Palumbo know at jpalumbo@tolland.k12.ct.us with the subject “Grant Committee” and let us know you’d like to be part of the team! Thank you! Finally, as I was going about my business I encountered a link for an Atlantic Monthly article on school funding (please see below). On a different (but related) note - I like to share, and I am always open to what is shared. Please send items along that you feel strongly about so I can get your perspective on matters in education, and/or the world!
