What a beautiful month September was. I hope you all enjoyed the Blood Harvest Moon and eclipse!! We are now in full swing in all of our programs at the FRC! The children are falling into their new routines and doing beautifully. What fun we had with Music Together's Uncle Jerry who came to sing and dance with us at St. Matthews!

We have had several new staff members join our FRC family! We are delighted to welcome

Christy Czerwinski who is working in our Preschool Enrichment Program.

Donna Hryn who is working with our 3 year old preschool and Grow with Me Families.

Karen Bradford who is our new Parent Educator (Home Visitor for Birth - 5 year olds)

Michael Sireci and Casey Sgamboti who are working in our afterschool program.

We still have limited openings in our traditional preschool and in our Preschool Enrichment Program for 3-5* year olds. This is a two - five day a week drop off program being offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00-1:30 PM. (choice of 2 -5 days). *children must be at least 3 by August 1, 2015.

It is not too late to sign up for Spanish Classes or our playgroups!!

October 6 : Preschool Field Trip to Hurst Family Farm

October 13 : No School : Vacation Care Field Trip to Brown's Harvest for School Age Care (must pre-register and we must have 20 registered) the center will be open from 7:00-5:45. Bus leaving Birch Grove at 10:00 returning by 3:00 $59.00 for the day.

November 6 : No School : Vacation Care will have a special guest from Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center coming to share some animals with us.

November 12, Cindy Rzasa Bess, Ph.D. is returning to speak. She will present three programs at Birch Grove School. We welcome you to attend one or all three! Call to register (860)870-6750 x 215. Childcare available with pre-registration!

1:30-3:00 pm "Look Who Is Talking-Enhancing and Facilitating Language Development" Children are born with receptive language capabilities. They are aware of language first in its non-verbal form, then in its verbal form. A child's whole world is shaped by the language s/he acquires, the information s/he understands from the environment and the words s/he uses to organize his/her thoughts and express him/herself. Language is vital to thinking and succeeding in this world.

3:30-5:30 pm "Autism Spectrum Disorder: Understanding what it is and knowing what to do in the Early Childhood Setting" Designed for Early Childhood Educators and Teachers.

5:30-7:30 pm "Setting the Limits - Setting the Tone" The need to create a positive and supportive community during childhood is great for both children and the adults in their lives. Children feel more secure when they know their parents and teachers will set, define and enforce standards for appropriate behavior. In addition they feel safe in structured environments that have clearly defined expectations for all. Join us for an evening filled with helpful hints, worthwhile tips and a few good laughs.

November 13 : School Age Care Evening Pot Luck and Art Show! 6:00-7:30 Birch Grove Café!

This year we will be offering additional enrichment activities for preschoolers 3 afternoons a week. We are offering preschool Spanish on Tuesdays, 1:30-3:00 and an Art Class on Thursdays 1:30-3:00. We did not get enough families for our Music Together Class. We will try again if there is interest.

Beginning this Friday, join us for Friday fun! 11:00-12:00 PM

First Friday, Birthday party Fridays!! 11:00-12:00 PM. Come celebrate with us! Each month we will honor those who are celebrating birthdays. We will play birthday party themed games, to celebrate the birthday boys and girls. It doesn't have to be your birthday month, just come and have fun with us!

Second Friday, Just babies! (pre-walkers and their care givers. BYOB (blanket!!) 11:00-12:00 PM

Third Friday, It's all about lunch, bring your lunch! We will visit and listen to a story! (Grandparents encouraged) 11:00-12:00 PM

Forth Friday Yoga fun for all ages!! 11:00-12:00 PM

Our preschoolers are ready to enjoy the fun that fall brings. We will be taking a field trip to Hurst Family Farm! We will be doing all kinds of crafts and activities with leaves, pumpkins and apples! Our traditional preschoolers will have a visit from a fire fighter! Remember October is Fire Prevention Month!

Preschool Enrichment will be working on a fall theme for the we will be hiking and looking for colorful leaves and acorns. We will incorporate those things we find in nature into our science and art work. We will also be talking and working with apples and pumpkins. The children will also do some cooking using apples and pumpkins. We are looking forward to our field trip to Hurst farm and we will talk about fire prevention this month. We are looking forward to a busy month. At the end of the month the children will start working in their own writing journals.

October is pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin month! Check out the display cases and seasonal art work! They will be decorating pumpkins, guessing the number of seeds in pumpkins and making pumpkin muffins. They will also be playing Halloween Jeopardy and have fun with October word searches.

In the After school program, the children have been enjoying going out doors to play with their friends and run off their extra energy. We will start working on our AROUND The WORLD TRAVEL bulletin board adding different banners (highlighting their name) from around the world. The children will also look for and try different games from different countries. We will also add some fall art work in our hallway.

It is sure to be an exciting month! Keep an eye on Birch Grove and Tolland Intermediate Schools' digital backpack and our website for updates and changes.

At BGP we will be using the side FRC entrance for entry to the building 7:00-8:30 AM and 4:30-5:45 PM. If FRC does not answer between 8:00 and 8:30 please buzz the atrium door. If staying at school or between the hours 8:00 AM-4:30 PM individuals must use the main entrance and sign in at the office. Preschool programs and daytime playgroups will use the side FRC entrance and be greeted by their teacher, please don't buzz during arrival time. TIS will use the side entrance, to be buzzed in. Please remember to call your child's FRC teacher if your child will be absent. All those picking children up need to have a photo ID. We wish you all a wonderful beginning to the new school year!
